Faunus is the literary journal of The Friends of Arthur Machen, released twice yearly and delivered to members all over the world. These beautifully bound limited edition hardback books feature articles and essays on Machen’s writing, as well as rare examples of his work.

In addition to these, members now enjoy exclusive digital access to the entire Faunus archive, with every issue available for download in PDF format.

Highlights from the latest issue (No. 53, Summer 2026) include:

  • William Charlton (1935–2025) — Aidan Reynolds pays tribute to one of the most distinguished Friends: philosopher, short story writer, and co-author of the first biography of Arthur Machen, who passed away in September 2025 at the age of 90.

  • After 108 Years: Assessing the Writing, Unearthing, and Publication of Arthur Machen’s The Great Terror — Thomas Kent Miller explores the genesis of Machen’s lost wartime serial and its recent restoration to print by Christopher Tompkins of Darkly Bright Press.

  • A Letter from Arthur Machen Regarding Oscar Wilde — A vivid 1925 letter in which Machen recalls his personal encounters with Wilde, from early dinners in Soho to their final, sobering meeting in the year of Wilde’s downfall.

  • The Hidden Pan: A Pioneering Catalan Translation of Arthur Machen — Francesc Morales recounts producing the first Catalan translation of The Great God Pan and The Inmost Light, and traces Machen’s legacy in Spanish and Latin American culture.

  • Arthur Machen and the Christian East? — Steve Luber examines Machen’s surprising familiarity with Eastern Orthodox liturgy and its echoes throughout his fiction.
